The Velvet Lounge series of Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St., will present festival weekend music Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Life-long songwriter Tom Albury returns Friday. Growing up in the 1960s in the downriver Detroit area, he was exposed to a good variety of music at an early age, from Motown to Chopin to Dylan and beyond. Some of his original arrangements are classic folk, but others defy labeling. He has been playing to audiences large and small for more than 30 years.

On Saturday, the Velvet Lounge welcomes back Silent Sam & The Evans, formerly Papadello. Silent Sam & The Evans is steeped in the sounds of traditional folk and blues with a modern pop sensibility. The band's melodies are infectious, and their highly rhythmic take on the Americana sound always keeps the audience moving. The Portland-based trio is led by singer/songwriter Evan Chase.

There is no cover charge, but tipping the musicians is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
