Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine will host a volunteer thank you dinner to recognize all the school-based coordinators who volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The event is Tuesday, July 30 at Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center in Northport, which is hosting the event and providing the meal for the volunteers.

School-based coordinators are screened, interviewed and trained school staff and community volunteers who supervise weekly mentoring between high school and college age Bigs with their elementary and middle school age Littles at a local school one day each week. Each school mentoring location has one or two coordinators that attend, oversee and supervise the weekly match meetings to ensure match quality and child safety.

Having community members serve as school-based coordinators allows Big Brothers Big Sisters to reach more youth.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine is currently looking for new volunteers to serve as school-based coordinators at several schools throughout Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset, and Waldo counties. For more information, call 593-0380 or email
