The Velvet Lounge series will bring a trio of mostly new acts to Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St., the last weekend of July. Music runs from 7 to 9 p.m. There is no cover charge, but tipping the musicians is highly encouraged.

Rock City will present Hurry Down Sunshine Friday, July 26. Brian Kavanah and Stan Davis play jazz standards, the blues, love songs and other songs about life. Kavanah’s singing, Davis’ storytelling and their two guitars weave a tapestry of music that combines deep, emotional vocals with improvised acoustic guitar melodies.

The series promises doubleheader of awesomeness Saturday, July 27, thanks to The Other Bones and GinLab. The Other Bones are a Maine-based trio of Andrew Mead (synth, guitar, production), Eric Bruce (guitar) and Loretta Allen (vocal, synth). The group embraces contemporary electronic production while featuring soulful vocals and powerful rock guitars. Listeners have made comparisons to MGMT, Kimbra and Passion Pit.

GinLab is the result of varied musical tastes and styles. The music is a mix of indie, electronica and alternative rock, which yields a sound that is hard to define.
