Beginning Wednesday, July 17, there will be an ongoing Silent Auction featuring original works by 10 local artists to benefit Gibbs Library. The artists whose work is featured are  Hank Aho, Anne Ayvaliotis, Joan Freiman, Phyllis Janto, Suzanne Phillips, Carol Sloane, Ieva Tatarski, Barbara Vanderbilt, Cynthia White and Sheila White. The work will be posted as it comes in at gibbslibrary.org.

Also posted will be items for a lively live auction that will be the highlight of the Washington Library Association’s Aug. 3 party to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of Gibbs Library. The silent auction will end a half hour after the live auction concludes.

Through the efforts of many people, many unsung, the volunteer-run community library has steadily grown and been able to expand its programs. The WLA wants to mark with this milestone with a one-time event that will be fun and raise some needed money for the Gibbs budget.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, there will be a reception on the library’s lawn and new patio. Musical entertainment will be provided by Midcoast rock and blues band All Stove Up; beverages and light food will be provided. The auction will begin 6:30 p.m., offering a wide variety of goods and services. During breaks in the auction and after its conclusion, Elijah Ocean will provide original songs and music.

The auctions serve as major fundraising to help meet this year’s budget. All are welcome to bid and to bid again to support the completely volunteer-run library.
