Gardener and herbalist Deb Soule will share her thoughts and experiences of growing and using medicinal herbs at Merryspring Nature Center Tuesday, July 23, at noon.

Soule’s presentation will cover the many uses, recipes, and healing effects of medicinal herbs. Her talk will focus on making organic herbs easily accessible around the home, and ways herbs can be prepared. She will also elaborate on her experiences on how she got involved with herbalism, eventually founding Avena Botanicals, a Rockport-based apothecary specializing in herbal remedies in 1985.

Soule launched Avena Botanicals at the Common Ground Fair in 1985. She is a frequent speaker and instructor at conferences and events across New England, and in 2005, was named by People, Places and Plants magazine as one of the 50 most influential gardeners in the Northeast. She is the author of "How to Move Like a Gardner: Planting and Preparing Medicines From Plants."

This lecture is part of the Summer talk series at Merryspring Nature Center, co-sponsored by Camden National Bank and Jaret & Cohn Real Estate. Admission is free for Merryspring members, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-members.
