Local student graduates from Milton Hershey School

HERSHEY, PA. — Kaylee Kilgore, daughter of Cindy Kilgore of Rockland, graduated recently from Milton Hershey School, a privately-endowed school located in Hershey, Pa. She was admitted to MHS in 2008 and was an active member of the Marching Band, Home Life Council, the Horticulture Club, Girl Scouts (president), and the School’s Swim Team.

At the High School Awards Program, Kilgore was presented with the Legree S. Daniels Award and the William Houtz Memorial Award. She also was honored with the Varsity “H” Medal, the most prestigious activity award given by Milton Hershey School.

She plans to continue her education at Lehigh University to major in biology/pre-med.

Area residents named to dean's list at UMaine-Machias

MACHIAS —The following local residents were among more than 280 students from the University of Maine at Machias who were named to the dean's list for the spring 2013 semester: Rebecca Ewen of Cushing, Kayla Dumond of Owls Head, Christopher Lord of Rockland, Jessica Gerrish of Tenants Harbor and Susan Bennett of Washington.

Vangel achieves honors at Loomis Chaffee School

WINDSOR, CONN. — Melanie Vangel, a junior from Camden has been named to the high honor roll at the Loomis Chaffee School.

Loomis Chaffee is an internationally recognized college preparatory school for grades 9-12 that fosters critical thinking and a global perspective in talented students from around the state, the country and the world.

Local resident graduates from Bates College

LEWISTON — Taylor S. Gartley, son of William and Carole Gartley, received a bachelor of arts in sociology from Bates College on May 26.

He was one of 436 seniors to graduate. During Gartley's time at Bates, his undergraduate activities included varsity football and basketball. He will be working Athenahealth.

Gartley is a 2009 graduate of Camden Hills Regional High School.

Bardon named to UAlbany dean's list

ALBANY, N.Y. — Sean Bardon of Camden, was named to the University at Albany's spring 2013 dean's list for outstanding academic achievement.

Palermo makes the grade at Westminster Choir College of Rider University

PRINCETON, N.J. — Sarah Palermo of Camden, a theory and composition major, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2013 semester at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

Westminster Choir College prepares musicians for careers as performers and as music leaders in schools, universities, churches and professional and community organizations.

Sosland earns dean's award at Colgate University

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Hannah Sosland was a recipient of the dean's award for academic excellence during the 2013 spring term at Colgate University, where Sosland is a member of the Class of 2015 and studies Peace & Conflict Studies.

To be eligible for the dean's award, a Colgate student must achieve higher than a 3.30 average while enrolled in at least four courses. Sosland is a graduate of Camden Hills Regional High School and lives in Rockport.
