The Penobscot Bay Carvers and Artists Association again is sponsoring the Maine Coast Carving and Art Competition and Show at the Belfast Boathouse, 34 Commercial St. The event will run Saturday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Boathouse is a short walk from Heritage Park, where Arts in the Park takes place the same weekend.

For the 25th time, competitors from many New England states will arrive the day before to enter their bird carvings, non-wildlife carvings, photography and artwork into the competition.  On Saturday and Sunday, the show is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The judging takes place Saturday morning with the floating of decoys in the bay first thing, a fun process to watch. A raffle of a Canada Goose carved by Walter Simmons of Lincolnville and a miniature carving of a Swan by Frank Solari of Cushing will take place during the show with the winning ticket drawn Sunday afternoon. The public may vote for their choice in each category. Club members will be on hand to answer any questions and some carvers will be chipping away. For more information, call 338-5309 or 789-5363.
