The Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to the following incidents June 23 to July 1:

An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

June 23

Following a traffic stop in Rockland, Deputy Lance Mitchell arrested Luke Yost, 22, of New York for operating under the influence. He was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Sgt. James Moore arrested Matthew Snow, 21, of South Thomaston for violating condition of release. He was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputy Robert Potter began a burglary investigation on Vinalhaven. This is still an active investigation with no suspects or leads at this time.

Subsequent to a traffic stop in St. George, Deputy John Hansen issued a summons for speed.

Deputies Hansen and Paul Pinkham responded to a report of an assault in Warren. Gabriel Grover, 21, of Warren was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and criminal mischief. He was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Pinkham arrested Bryan Austin, 45, of Appleton on a charge of cruelty to animals.

Hansen began an investigation of threatening in Warren. The suspect in this case was located and issued a summons for terrorizing, along with a harassment and trespass notice.

Deputy Paul Spear arrested Robert Rector, 39, of Rockland on an outstanding arrest warrant. Subject was currently incarcerated at the Knox County Jail on other charges.

Following a traffic stop in Warren, Hansen arrested Jessica Taylor, 31, of Warren for operating after suspension. She was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Spear arrested Christopher Hutchinson, 22, of Cushing on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Spear arrested John Daniels, 35, of Rockland on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Hansen responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle striking a dog. Non-reportable damage sustained.

June 24

Pinkham arrested Paul Benner, 29, of St. George on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

After a traffic stop in Washington, Pinkham arrested Colon MacArthur, 44, of Rockland on a charge of operating after suspension. He was transported to Knox County Jail without incident.

Following a traffic stop in Union, Deputy Michael Sprague arrested Blair Haney, 30, of Union on charges of operating after suspension, possession of a suspended license, operating unregistered motor vehicle and possession of schedule drugs. He was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Hansen, Spear and Sgt. John Palmer responded to a report of suspicious activity in St. George. Three juvenile males were located and warned on trespassing.

June 25

Deputy Paul Simonetti conducted a traffic detail throughout the county. Six warnings and three summonses were issued for various traffic violations.

Moore responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Hope involving two vehicles, one of which backed into the other. Reportable damage sustained.

Potter began a harassment investigation on Vinalhaven. Suspect will be issued a warning for same once located.

Spear began an investigation of harassment in St. George. The suspect was located and issued a warning for same.

Deputies Nathaniel Jack and Sgt. Palmer responded to a report of a disorderly male in Friendship. The male was located and issued a warning for same.

Jack responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in St. George that eventually went off the road. The operator, Edward Sabatino, 57, of Friendship was arrested on a charge of OUI. He was taken to the Knox County Jail without incident.

June 26

Lt. Kirk Guerrette arrested Bryan Austin, 45, of Appleton on a probation hold. Subject was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Moore began an investigation of assault in Friendship. Due to the victim’s lack of cooperation, there will be no charges sought.

Mitchell responded to assist Rockland police officers at the scene of a male subject making threats with a weapon. This is a Rockland PD case.

June 27

Deputies Dave Johnson and Mitchell responded to a report of a disorderly in Appleton. Upon arrival, it was found that the homeowners were just messing around and there were no real problems.

Johnson and Mitchell responded to a report of a disorderly male in Washington. The male was issued summonses for criminal mischief and assault.

June 28

Pinkham and Hansen responded to a report of a domestic in Hope. This investigation has been transferred to the domestic violence coordinator.

Moore, with the assistance of Thomaston Police Officer Michael Blais, arrested Chris Sullivan, 27, and Melissa Heino, 35, both of North Carolina on outstanding arrest warrants. Both subjects were taken to Knox County Jail without incident.

Pinkham responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving two vehicles, one of which rear-ended the other. Reportable damage sustained.

Subsequent to a traffic stop in Hope, Jack issued a summons for illegal attachment of plates.

Simonetti and Moore responded to a report of a domestic in South Thomaston. Louis Alex, 72, of Thomaston was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and criminal mischief. He was taken to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputies Matthew Elwell and Spear conducted an OUI detail throughout the county. Eight stops made with no OUI arrests.

Jack, Mitchell, Simonetti and Moore responded to a report of a disorderly male in Cushing. Edward Endsley, 30, of St. George was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

June 29

Spear arrested Tasha Wellman, 28, of Whitefield on an outstanding arrest warrant. Subject was taken to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

Spear arrested Michael Hanson, 27, of Whitefield on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Pinkham responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Warren involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Reportable damage sustained.

Pinkham began an investigation of domestic assault in Appleton. This case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review prior to charges being sought.

Potter began an investigation of threatening on Vinalhaven. An arrest warrant is being sought for the suspect involved.

Palmer conducted radar detail in Union. One warning was issued.

Spear began a harassment investigation of harassment in Union. The suspect in this case was located and issued a warning for same.

Following a traffic stop in St. George, Lt. Kirk Guerrette arrested Lawrence Wood, 52, of Port Clyde for operating after suspension. She was taken to the Knox County Jail without incident.

July 1

Bruce Cunningham, 25, of Friendship, was traveling north on Route 97 in Friendship near the intersection at Salt Pond Road. Cunningham became distracted when a bee flew in the window, causing him to travel off the road, through a ditch and several trees and stopped in the front yard of a residence on Cushing Road in Friendship.
Cunningham was transported by Waldoboro Ambulance for complaint of pain.

 

In total, this one week period, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received 226 calls for service. Those calls that are not listed above are such calls as all-terrain vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, along with nuisance, erratic vehicle and suspicious complaints.
