Rock City Cafe's Velvet Lounge will welcome When Particles Collide, a rock ‘n’ roll duo from Bangor, Friday, July 5; the following night, local combo Ellis-Myers and Moral Fiber will perform at the downtown Rock City, 316 Main St. Both show runs from 7 to 9 p.m.

When Particles Collide promises a high-energy, captivating set of original songs about the things that keep people up at night. The artful and simultaneously simplistic and complex songwriting akin to that of the Talking Heads, Television or The Pixies finds itself in a synergistic struggle with anthemic arena-worthy drumming akin to that of Carter Beauford or Mike Portnoy.

Singer and drummer G.G. Ellis, a Rockland native, played for many years in Austin, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. He has reconnected with his good friend Bob Myers, lead singer and guitar player for many Rockland-based groups including The Tremelos, Rockland's very first rock ‘n’ roll band. Ellis-Myers are joined by Kevin Martin from All Stove Up on bass and guitar; and the very talented Cole Barbour from Tastes Like Chicken and Sideways Highways on guitar and cello. They play a diverse blend of roots rock, country blues and originals.

As usual, there is no cover charge; however, tipping the performers is highly encouraged. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123.
