State Rep. Ellen Winchenbach, R-Waldoboro, has been appointed to two standing committees with the National Conference of State Legislatures – labor and economic development; and environment.

The national conference is a bipartisan organization providing research, technical assistance and opportunities for state legislators.

“I am committed to creating a better business climate in Maine, so I am interested in learning what other states are doing in that regard and in sharing best practices," said Winchenbach, a first-term legislator serving on the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee. "Also, living and working in coastal Maine, I know how important environmental policy is to our Maine communities.”

The issues for the committee on labor and economic development include workforce development, travel and tourism, and employment training. In the committee on environment, issues include clean air, alternative energy, and conservation.

Committees issue directives for conference staff to follow as they advocate on behalf of state legislatures in Washington, D.C.
