The Waldo Theatre has finalized its cast for its late summer production of “Rent,” the famous rock opera written by Jonathan Larsen. The performance schedule spans two months, with shows Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16 and 17; and then a two-weekend run in September, opening Friday, Sept. 13. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldo, 916 Main St./Route 1.

Set in the East Village of New York City, “Rent” is about falling in love, finding one’s voice and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “Rent” has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.

The Waldo production is being directed by Melissa Hearth with musical direction by Sean Fleming, produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

The cast is as follows: Angel Dumott Schunard, Kyle Aarons; Benjamin Coffin III, Hank Garretson; Joanne Jefferson, Tabitha Ordway; Mark Cohen, Griffin Han Lalime in August and Brad Fillion In September; Maureen Johnson, Cayleigh Hearth; Mimi Marquez, Mallory Adams; Roger Davis, Tod Widdecombe; and Tom Collins, Roger Marcotte. Ensemble members are Elizabeth Vega, Rae Cerce, Michael Juchnik, Chris Powers, Sabrina Turner, Phoebe Mendes, Catie Larie, Merissa Madarasz, Christopher Gray, Patricia Saucier, Latricia Saucier, Allison Roberts, Justice Kennedy, Katrina Pound Pelkey and Haley Bascom.
