Wayfarer Marine and Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding present the 2013 Penobscot Bay Rendezvous Aug. 15-18. Sign-ups have been coming in early and fast and it is shaping up to be the biggest fleet yet. Space is limited.

What’s happening this year? A new band slated for Thursday night at Lyman-Morse. Girls Guns and Glory will set the tone for the evening. For food, Josh Gamage and Maine Coast Catering have lined up an all Food Truck evening to give the most variety of delicious and original offerings from the mid-coast area. Fireworks once again will cap off the night.

The Texas Flying Legends air show on Friday morning off the Rockland Breakwater will officially launch the sailboat racing. The public can view the action from the Rockland Breakwater. The sailboat fleet will race to Camden. Ted Smith and his race committee are in charge of the sailboat fleet and will put together three days of great competitive and fun racing. PBR is open to the serious racer, weekend warriors and novice racers. Smith assigns everyone to the appropriate class guaranteeing good competition for all who enter. New this year will be an award for the most improved sailor.

Steve Bunnell has taken on the mantle of Powerboat Guide for the weekend. He has some great courses lined up for the powerboat fleet exploring Penobscot Bay. The signature powerboat event is the Photo Pursuit. Each day a list of subjects are handed out to the powerboat skippers. During the course of the day the groups photographs the subjects on the list. Each night the photos are downloaded and shown at the evening’s festivities. Prizes are awarded to the top three photographers at Sunday’s Awards ceremony. Friday night’s post race Crew Party and Yellow Jersey Presentation will be held at Wayfarer Marine from 5 to 7 p.m. giving attendees the evening to enjoy Camden’s many terrific restaurants. The Yellow Jersey Presentation is one of the little details that separate this event from others. During the post race celebrations, Yellow Jerseys are handed out to the top finishing skippers of each class. Those skippers (or someone on their crew) must wear the jersey during the followings day’s competition. A la the Tour de France, the jersey makes it easy to finish the previous day’s winners.

Saturday night surf and turf buffet and dance party is the crescendo of the weekend’s festivities at Wayfarer Marine. Sailboat racing wraps up on Sunday while the Powerboats participate in a Poker Run. At 4 p.m. awards are given out and the weekend is a wrap by Sunday at 6 p.m. All pricing including pricing for Single-handed sailors and for those only interested in competing can be found at penobscotbayrendezvous.com/How-to-register.
