There is a new opportunity for preschool age children coming to Camden this fall.

Compass Rose, a licensed preschool, will provide a warm and nurturing home environment for children who desire a small group experience. Director Jen Conover will be taking very few children into her home to create a peaceful, mindful environment and to give children the attention they deserve.

Compass Rose will be having an Open House Saturday June 29, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.. Ella Simon, a 13-year-old local eighth-grader, will be making homemade ice cream on her famous icycle bicycle and Isabell and Aiden Manahan (ages 10 and 13) will be playing some music on their violins. Pearl Benjamin, a local member of the 4-H club, will be letting the children pet her lamb "Bolt." Come meet the chickens, plant a flower and enjoy a light snack. Located at 29 Limerock St. in Camden.

Conover has worked with children her entire adult life. Working in Telluride, Colo. for seven years and then in Midcoast Maine, where she has been teaching preschool, sailing, and ski racing for the past 15 years. She is the owner/director of Ocean Explorers, a summer camp for children focusing on the sea and boats. Her own three children attended Waldorf preschools, and she currently works at the Montessori school in Camden. Her teaching philosophy draws from both of these educational models and is based on her respect for the child as an individual.

Conover has a bachelor of the arts degree in kinesiology and exercise science as well as art. She will use this knowledge to incorporate movement as well as art projects into the week.
