This year there are two selectmen seats open with four residents vying for these two open positions. The candidates are William Hahn who is currently serving as a Selectman, Clifford Blastow, Mona Stearns and Frederick Campbell.

There is also one seat on the board of assessors with one candidate for the position. Due to the change in population and the reduction of one representing member on the RSU 13 Board of Directors, the town does not elect a member this year.

Voters will also be ratifying the RSU 13 budget at the polls.

In addition to the 2013-2014 budget and polling for elected officials, voters will be asked to consider amending the town’s land use ordinance. Planning and Development Director Bill Najpauer indicates that the general intent of these amendments is to update the land use chart and performance standards to reflect contemporary land uses and to make the ordinance more flexible.

Another question voters will face is to determine if the town will designate the downtown village as an area of “slum and blight." Voter approval is necessary if the town wishes to seek Community Development Block Grants for the purpose of implementing Waldoboro’s Downtown Revitalization Plan, which the board adopted at its Nov. 22, 2011 meeting.
