What Rockland resident experienced an epiphany in the library which may have contributed to an amazing career and world fame? What’s in the library safe? Find out at the Library and Historical Society tour Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m.

This tour will feature the history, art, and architecture of the library. Rockland Public Library is one of the busiest in the state, ranking in the top 10 in library visits, program attendance, Internet use, and interlibrary loans. The library has been designated a Star Library by the industry’s leading periodical, "Library Journal" for five years.

The tour will include a glimpse of Civil War uniforms, weapons, and memorabilia at the Rockland Historical Society, located in the lower level of the library.

They will participate in the Maine Civil War Trail this July and August and will be open special hours: Mondays to Fridays, from noon to 5 p.m.

The historical society also features exhibits from Rockland’s lime and fishing industries. A representative from the historical society will be on hand to point out the highlights of the collection.
