On Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16, the Sail Power and Steam Museum will host its annual Family Fun Days.

There will be activities for the whole family on both days and the museum will be open for visits and tours. Rides in a 1923 Model T Ford, blacksmith pounding out iron creations, stone artisan carving and creating sculpture, boat builders constructing a 18-inch Friendship Sloop in the workshop.

Special events schedule:

— 10 a.m.: Lawn sale under the tent with crafts and antiques

— 10:30 a.m.: Tour of the SPS Museum engine house running Steam and Make ‘n Break gas machinery. Live steam engine demonstrations with antique machinery puffing away.

— 11 a.m.: Lecture on the Maine Windjammer Fleet, the history, mystique, and operations by Capt. Jim.

— 11:30 a.m.: Tour of Capt. John Flint’s working navigation station. Learn about sextants, charts, compass and other navigation tools.

The lime kiln will be fired up in the morning to make quick lime, then visitors can cook their own hot dogs over the wood fire in the kiln. Or bring a lunch and eat on board the Flagship Rekord.

— 1 p.m.: Visit with Gordon Bok as he carves art on board the Rekord.

Tour the Rekord and the Navy Launch Lady Margaret.

— 1:30 p.m.: Discussion and history of the lime industry in the region by David Hoch.

— 2 p.m. Learn about ropes, knots, bends and splices in the museum knot demonstration

— 2:30 p.m. — Visit miniatures in wood with Geoffrey

— 3 p.m.: Windjammer discussion and songs of the old schooner fleet

Music all day Saturday and Sunday including sweet bluegrass by Playin’ Possum. Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. music jam in the conference room.

Nautical scavenger hunt, petting zoo and touch tank at the Coastal Children’s Museum. Plenty to pique interest and stimulate imagination and learning.
