River Arts invites the public to its annual Member Exhibition opening  and reception Friday, June 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition, which will hang until July 11, will display two- and three-dimensional work by 90 Maine artists from all around the region.

In addition to the Annual Members’ Show, River Arts holds 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions per year, with some of Maine’s most prominent art community members as jurors. More than 600 different Maine artists have exhibited in these shows. The gallery program creates opportunities for artists to have their work chosen in a juried show, participate in the gallery process and sell their work. More than 7,000 people visited the gallery and participated in events and workshops last year.

The new gallery space in the Hunt Business Center on Route 1 provides additional opportunities for emerging and mature artists to show a whole body of work, or to work together with others in producing their own shows. More than 30 artists will exhibit there in 2013. The first will be Louise Price and Janet Dearborn, whose show also opens June 7. The full exhibition schedule is available online at riverartsme.org.

The mission of River Arts is to nurture and encourage participation in the arts throughout the region of Midcoast Maine by providing exhibition, studio and performance spaces, classes and workshops, for people of all ages and abilities and support a wide range of activities in artistic disciplines by partnering with other arts and performance organizations to produce programs.

River Arts is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 563-1507; stop in; or visit the website.
