Camden Public Library’s Artist of the Month for June is David Cadbury of Rockport. There will be a reception for the artist Saturday, June 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Picker Room. The title of the exhibit is “Interstitial Prints: Storyboard for an Animated Film.”

Although his art training is in sculpture, and he holds a master’s degree in fine art from the Rinehart School of Sculpture in Baltimore, he recently has been investigating printmaking using digital tools. Cadbury combines several framed prints of colorful, low-resolution images into large mural-like pieces.

“My recent print-making has been focused on exploring, inventing and refining techniques using the computer as a graphics tool,” said Cadbury in an artist’s statement.

The computer easily accommodates repetition, sequencing and multiples, which suggests animation as a next step, he said. Strategies from filmmaking he has been exploring include cut-away; fade-in, fade-out; superimposition; split screens; freeze frames; and elements of rhythm, tempo and beat.
