Annette Vance Dorey, author of “Maine Mothers Who Murder 1875-1925: Doing Time in State Prison,” will give an illustrated talk Tuesday, June 11, at the Thomaston Historical Society, 80 Knox St. A short annual meeting to vote on a slate of officers will take place at 7:15 p.m. and the talk will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.; arriving at 7 p.m. is encouraged, as the evening will begin with refreshments.

Dorey will share previously untold stories of more than 30 mothers who murdered their children, went to trial and then spent time at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston. She will add other interesting facts she learned while doing the research for the creation of her book.

June is the time to renew THS membership or to join for the first time; members get a 10 percent discount on all purchases and admissions to special events including open house tours. There are three levels of membership: $18 for an individual; $25 for family memberships; and $50 for businesses.
