Eastport artist Arthur Cadieux is the featured artist at Yvette Torres Fine Art, 21 Winter St., through June 23. An artist reception will be held Friday, June 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. during the city’s First Friday Art Walk.

His show in Rockland marks a lifetime achievement of 25 one-man shows in the United States and Europe. Cadieux, who considers himself a Downeast Expressionist, offers some 20 works on canvas and paper in "The Edge of Spring." Each large landscape is taken from Downeast imagery and reveals nature about to shed its winter stillness before warming up to its inevitable animation in the changing spring light.

The rhythm in the work is supplied by jazz, which he listens to most often and dances to, brush in hand. For this series, he also added Stravinski, Satie and Copeland to the mix. Working together, the music, its rhythm and the paint, help the 69-year-old painter create.

"I spend everyday in the studio working, slogging through the chaos and destruction of the work to bring it back into balance and clarity," he said of the process.

Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by chance or appointment. For more information, email ytfa@midcoast.com or call 332-4014 or (888) 777-1077; or visit yvettetorresfineart.com.
