Despite soggy Memorial Day weekend conditions, the Run For The Money 5-Kilometer Road Race went off without a hitch Sunday morning, May 26.

The event raised more than $3,000, all of which went to the Mikail R. Russo More Opportunities for Neighborhood Youth (MONEY) Athletic Foundation Scholarship Program.

In the past, the Russos sponsored a home run derby in memory of their son, Mikail.

Sunday's race/walk began and ended at Lincolnville Central School and spanned 3.1 miles, taking runners down both Poland Road and Norton Pond Camp Road to the finish.

While 64 racers participated in the 5K, along with a handful in the children's fun run, runners from around the country and beyond virtually took part in the race, sending in their donations and race routes.

Racers from Hawaii, New York, Georgia and North Carolina, along with one as far away as Greece, participated in the race in some fashion.

Darren Winchenbach, 31, of Waldoboro was the winner of the race, crossing the course in 19 minutes and 38 seconds. Emily Lopez, 18, of Lincolnville was the first female finisher, crossing the course fifth in 21:32.
