Pen Bay Healthcare recently announced a multiple sclerosis clinic, beginning June 2013 that will be dedicated to the coordination of medical care, research, rehabilitation and resources for patients with multiple sclerosis.

The MS Clinic will allow Pen Bay to build on the excellent medical care already available by creating a multidisciplinary team that offers superb care consistent with MS Centers in large cities. The MS Clinic is important for those living in Maine, where the prevalence of multiple sclerosis is one of the highest in the nation.

The Pen Bay MS Clinic will be led by Dr. Alexandra Degenhardt, a multiple sclerosis specialist and neurologist in Pen Bay’s award-winning neurology practice at Pen Bay Medical Center. The multidisciplinary team, in addition to neurologists, consists of urology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, rehabilitation, clinical care coordinators and a clinical trials coordinator.

Degenhardt was also recently appointed co-chairman of the Maine Clinical Advisory Committee for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Maine Clinical Advisory Committee represents Maine nationally and helps to improve services in the state for persons with multiple sclerosis.
