Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings Fridays at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. The theme for May’s films is More Great Dames.

The series wraps with the May 31 film, "Mildred Pierce," a 112-minute film from 1945. This potent mixture of melodrama and film noir was nominated for six Oscars and features an Academy Award-winning performance by Joan Crawford. When police interrogate restaurateur Mildred Pierce (Crawford) after finding her second husband dead, will her obsession with her selfish oldest daughter Veda (Ann Blyth), cause Mildred to sacrifice herself to protect her child? Co-stars include Zachary Scott, Jack Carson and Eve Arden.

Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be served. The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
