The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes Film Series continues Thursday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m. with a screening of “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” with Basil Rathbone in the Friends Community Room of Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.

Of the more than 70 actors that have portrayed Sherlock Holmes in film and television, the series is screening four of the finest portrayals from 1939 to 2010. “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” is the second installment to the Sherlock Holmes film series released between 1939 and 1946. It was the second film to feature Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. John Watson. In this film, Professor Moriarty has a scheme for stealing the crown jewels from the Tower of London. To draw Holmes in to his web, Moriarity persuades a gaucho flute player to murder a girl.
