Thursday through Sunday, May 30 through June 1, artists are invited to set up their easels outdoors and paint at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens with no admission charge. Pre-registration is not required; artists should simply check in at the front desk to receive the complimentary admission sticker and then head out into the 250-acre property with art supplies in hand.

CMBG hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The property consists of a dozen ornamental gardens amidst a woodland setting that reflects a quintessential Maine-coast landscape. In the gardens themselves, many plants are in full flower. There are intriguing water features, stonework and structures that will inspire artists, no matter what their genre or technique.

The forested areas are bursting into bloom with wildflowers, including pink lady's-slipper orchids. A mile of shorefront easily accessible by well-groomed trails offers additional views artists will want to capture on paper or canvas. There also will be plenty of subjects on hand for those who like to do sketches or paintings that contain people, no matter what their age.

For more information, visit MaineGardens.org; call 633-4333, ext. 101; or stop by the Gardens, located off Barters Island Road.
