The Shire of Hadchester will host its 2013 Spring Demo, A Medieval Meeting, Saturday, June 1, in Harbor Park. A severe weather postponement date of Saturday, June 8, has been set. The general public will be welcomed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The good gentles of Midcoast Maine are invited to shake off the winter doldrums and come and breathe the salty perfume of the rock-clad coast in springtime. The Shire, sponsored by the Province of Malagentia and a part of the Society for Creative Anachronism, will present medieval crafts, activities, games, explanation of typical foods, daily life and dancing, and armored combat. SCAdians and members of the public of all ages are welcome.

There is no fee to attend, either for SCA members or the public. The demo will be held ocean-side at central Harbor Park. The Society for Creative Anachronism is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to the study of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The SCA has more than 30,000 participants worldwide who recreate many different aspects of these eras including fighting, fencing, archery, music, dance and numerous arts, crafts and sciences. Members of the Society learn about the eras they study both through research, by wearing the clothing and using the tools of the time and actually doing the activities, crafts, arts and sciences practiced between 600 and 1600 AD.
