Agren was honored recently by the Institute for Family-Owned Business with the 2013 Maine Family Business Award in the large business category.

More than 250 business leaders from across the state attended the awards ceremony held May 13 at Portland Marriot at Sable Oaks in South Portland.

Award recipients were selected for their business success, positive business and family linkages, contributions to community and industry, family participation, work environment, communication, and innovative business practices and strategies.

According to the judges, it was a "near unanimous choice" to select Agren for the award. They were impressed with Agren’s “ability to build customer loyalty and the sincerity that flowed from Agren’s application, from expanding operations to its investment in the community.”

Agren was founded in 1969 by brothers Douglas and Donald Agren as an appliance repair service in Auburn. The company’s operations now encompass five retail stores offering appliance repair services in Central and Midcoast Maine. Agren is under the leadership of Douglas’s son, Jason Agren.

“It is an honor to be selected for this prestigious award, especially in light of the other successful and well-known businesses that were nominated in this category,” stated Jason Agren, president, in a news release. “I am proud to be president of a company that was founded by my father and my uncle and that is one of the few family-owned appliance dealers among the top 100 appliance retailers in the country.”

Founded in 1969, family-owned and operated Agren Appliance & Television has retail stores in Auburn, Norway, Brunswick, Topsham, South Portland and Waldoboro.
