Students in Teresa Brewster’s second-grade class at the Lura Libby School are on the ball.

Each student has a Wittfitt stability ball “chair” to use during the day. The balls were purchased in fall 2012 as part of a grant funded by the Georges River Education Foundation. The grant was entitled Let’s Get Moving with a focus on providing opportunities during the day to increase movement, attention, concentration and wellness.

Students worked through a series of five health lessons targeting the history, benefits and uses of the stability ball before getting their custom-sized ball. After completing the lessons, students worked together to inflate the balls with a special pump. Sitting on the ball helps to improve posture, core strength and concentration.
