As part of The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes Film Series, there will be a screening of "The Empty House," with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes, Thursday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Friends Community Room of Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.

Rockland Public Library is screening four of the finest portrayals from 1939 to 2010, selected from the more than 70 actors who have portrayed Sherlock Holmes in film and television. Brett's portrayal was featured on public television in this country. In "The Empty House, Holmes, believed dead after his fatal encounter with Professor Moriarity three years earlier at Reichenbach Falls,  returns to England to foil a murder plot by a former Moriarity lieutenant.

This evening is one in a continuing Thursday evening series of literary, film and musical offerings sponsored by the Rockland Public Library and The Friends of the Rockland Public Library. Admission is free.
