The much-anticipated annual Plant and Bake Sale at The Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18.

The church is located at the corner of Green and Main streets (U.S. Route 1). Co-chairs Emily Rotch and Sue Bragg have promised an array of locally dug and grown perennials, such as daylilies, iris (German and Siberian), hostas, dahlias and lady’s mantle among others; also ground covers such as ginger, violets, hearty geraniums, lily of the valley and evening primrose.

In addition, a variety of annuals will be for sale including large zinnias of various colors. There will be the opportunity to purchase houseplants, trees and bushes as well as pots, garden tools and gardening books in addition to the wonderful array of delicious baked goods.

In the vegetable and herb department will be the following varieties of tomatoes: ‘Jasper’ a red cherry tomato; ‘Sungold’ an orange cherry tomato; ‘Beefsteak’ tomatoes; and ‘Defiant’, JSS’s new late blight-resistant tomato; and the herb Genovese basil among others. Descriptions of all the tomatoes will be available to help home gardeners choose the perfect combinations for salads, slicing and snacking.
