Regional School Unit 13 board members Sally Carleton and Christine Curtis have organized a town meeting-style forum to discuss the future of Owls Head Central School and Gilford Butler School.

The meeting will take place Tuesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Owls Head Central School.

Carleton, who represents Owls Head on the RSU 13 board, said the meeting was organized by Curtis and herself because they feel, as elected officials, it is their responsibility to hear from the residents of their communities. Curtis represents South Thomaston on the board.

"We felt it was the prudent thing to do; to have a meeting with our constituents so they can voice their opinion," she said, adding the meeting is independent of the school district or the board.

Everything from keeping the schools open or closing them will be discussed, Carleton said.

Owls Head Central School has approximately 70 third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students and Gilford Butler enrolls more than 90 kindergarten to second-graders.
