Prior to the start of the April 29 selectmen meeting in Lincolnville, groundbreaking for the "new" town office took place.

According to Town Administrator David Kinney, selectmen on April 29 approved a $539,552 contract with The Penobscot Co. of Rockport for work at the town office.

Funding for renovations of the existing town office was approved by Lincolnville voters in November 2012 after several failed attempts to capture voter support for a town office upgrade during the past decade.

The referendum question asked voters to appropriate $470,000 from the Capital Investment Reserve Account and authorize up to $220,000 in general obligation bonds to fund the renovation and expansion of the existing Lincolnville Town Office. Residents cast 806 ballots in favor and 613 against, according to a previously published report.

The board of selectmen and municipal building committee worked with 2A Architects to fine-tune the building design for several months. Issues such as roof repairs and changes to bring the building up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards will be addressed.

While construction continues, town office staff has relocated. Lincolnville Town Office opened at its temporary location in the Hazel & Roger Heald Fire Station as of April 23. According to town employees, the relocation will last until renovations to the 493 Hope Road office are complete in fall 2013. The town office phone number remains the same at 763-3555.
