The auction concludes with a “live” event Saturday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m. at Rockport Opera House with a live auction, a hat contest, cash bar, great food and dessert and entertainment with The Offbeats.

Nomination papers update

If you took out (or still want to), nomination papers for positions open for Select Board, SAD 28/CSD Board, Library Committee or Budget Committee, remember papers must be completed with a minimum 25 signatures (a few extra recommended), from registered Rockport voters and returned to the town office by 5 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, April 26.

Municipal meetings

The joint meeting with the Camden Select Board will be held at the Camden Opera House Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m. The Investment Committee will meet Tuesday, April 30, at 4 p.m. The Town Manager Search Committee will meet Wednesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at the town office and Camden-Rockport Pathways Committee will also meet at 7 p.m., but at  Camden Town Office.

Tuesday, April 23 was the date “Regional EMS Proposals (bids)” were due at Rockport, Camden, Hope, Lincolnville town offices. These bids were requested following the huge increase sticker shock towns received from requests for the 2013-14 budget year from the current provider. Books plus

Author Liza Walsh will present one of her magical fairy garden workshops at the library Friday, April 26, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Participants will transform a very special garden behind the library into a magical fairy garden. Children will also take home a packet of seeds and fairy dust for their own gardens.

Booklover’s Cafe will take place Saturday, April 27. Gather at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and informal conversation with the “in earnest” book discussion beginning at 10 a.m. The Wicked Good First Wednesday Book Club will meet Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. New members always welcome! The Poets‘ Corner with local poets George Chappell and Jim Ostheimer will meet Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., open to the public and all levels of ability and experience welcome. Bring samples of written work.

The Strand’s final 2012-13 Hi-Def “Live From the Met” performance, will be Saturday, April 27, at noon (encore Tuesday, May 7, at noon). A new production of Handel’s “Giulio Cesare” is featured. Note early start time, doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Art world

Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m., a Contemporary Artist Lecture, “Taking the Figure for a Walk: Three Contemporary Artists,” will be held at the Farnsworth auditorium.


Tuesday, April 30 at noon, Extension Educator Ellie Libby will lead a presentation at MNC on regional school garden programs with a colorful slideshow highlighting efforts to bring children to these outdoor classrooms and their impact on the local food movement. West Rockport Cemetery Association

The WRCA annual meeting will take place Saturday, May 4, at 8 a.m. at West Rockport Fire Station and also, your $10 membership dues are due, payable to: West Rockport Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 2011, Hope, ME 04847-2011. Treasurer Nancy Dowling notes the loss of two retired committee members: Dot Hamalainen, founding treasurer died March 2 this year and Carolyn Pendleton, faithful secretary for many years died on March 12 of this year.

Nest building time! Hang those mesh bags full of dryer lint and bits of strings and yarns you’ve collected and saved over the winter. One of my bags hangs off our deck where our feeders are and it has been pure joy to watch the birds pull out he materials and flit away with their treasures!
