High school tennis was served up for teams throughout the state Monday, April 22 with the start of the regular season, with the Camden Hills and Medomak Valley boys and girls squads in action against Gardiner and Morse of Bath respectively.

At the end of the day, both Windjammer teams secured wins over the Tigers, with the girls winning 5-0 in Rockport and the boys 4-1 in Gardiner.

Both Panther teams came up short in their bids for victories against the Shipbuilders, with the girls team losing 5-0 in Waldoboro and the boys team falling 4-1 in Bath.

Boys tennis

Camden Hills 4, Gardiner 1

At Gardiner April 22, the Windjammers made quick work of the host Tigers en route to their first win of the young season.

The individual results, with Camden Hills players listed first, were: In singles, Austin Pohlman beat Justin Lander, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4; Marc Belley beat Alex Roberts, 6-4, 7-6 (3); and Luke Burstein lost to Andy Roberts, 3-6, 1-6.

In doubles, Peter Vannorsdall and Josh Pitcairn beat Trevor Backas and Eddie Abodanzio, 6-0, 6-1; and James Annis and Drew Holt beat London Fleury and Dylan Haskell, 6-0, 6-1.

Morse 4, Medomak Valley 1

At Bath April 22, the Shipbuilders sailed to victory over the visiting Panthers in the season opener for both teams.

The individual results, with Medomak Valley players listed first, were: In singles, Noah Beck lost to Sam Leeman, 0-6, 0-6; and Ezra Hinkley lost to Michael Alvared, 3-6, 3-6. Medomak Valley lost its third singles match by forfeit.

In doubles, Aaron Smeltzer and Devin Field lost to Keagan Dronin and Kevin McKellar, 5-7, 6-3, 3-6; and Eli Kaufman and Gabe Cooley beat Joe Streb and Oskar Matero, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Girls tennis

Camden Hills 5, Gardiner 0

At Rockport April 22, the Windjammers blanked the Tigers to kick off the regular season.

The individual results, with Windjammers listed first, were: In singles, Abby Blakeley beat Hannah Luken, 8-0; and Camilla Walker beat Meghan Williams, 8-0. Camden Hills won its third singles match by forfeit.

In doubles, Katie Pratt and Macy Buck beat Isabella Veci and Anastasia Carr, 8-0; and Hannah Olsen and Jolly Brown beat Haley Tomberlain and Sissy Smith, 8-6.

In exhibition action, Christine Forcillo beat Bri Mosher, 8-1; Buck beat Luken, 8-5; Olson and Carter beat Tomberlain and Smith, 8-7; and Ellie Pendleton and Lilia Ohland lost to Veci and Carr, 8-7.
