Baseball and softball diamonds in the Midcoast and beyond were busy in recent days as the regular season is in full swing for local squads with play Monday, April 22 and Saturday, April 20.

The Medomak Valley softball team was the lone local squad to taste victory, however, posting a 10-1 win over Morse of Bath, while the Panther baseball squad was blanked 8-0 by the Shipbuilders in a pair of games in Bath.

The Vinalhaven baseball and softball teams were downed in a pair of doubleheaders April 20 in Richmond, with the Viking baseball squad falling 8-0 and 12-2 and the softball team losing 12-0 and 13-1, respectively.

The following is a recap of those recent results:


Medomak Valley 10, Morse 1

At Bath April 22, the Panthers remained unbeaten on the young season with a nine-run win over the Shipbuilders. Medomak Valley scored 10 runs on 15 hits and one error, scoring four runs in the first inning, one in the second, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. Morse scored a run on three hits and two errors, plating its lone run in the fifth inning.

Desiree Benner allowed three hits and two walks, with 12 strikeouts, pitching for the Panthers, while Jaclyn McNeil scattered 15 hits and six walks, with seven strikeouts for the Shipbuilders.

Leading Medomak Valley at the plated were Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet (2 doubles, 2 singles, 4 RBIs), Maria Ennamorati (3 singles, RBI), Abby Maguire (2 singles), Dani Hunt (single), Heidi Obuchon (double, 3 RBIs), Lauren Guptill (2 singles, 2 RBIs), Bridgett Miller (single) and Hannah Watmough (single).

For Morse, McNeil, Niesa Ryder and Megan Hixon singled.

Richmond 13, Vinalhaven/North Haven 1

At Richmond April 20, the Bobcats picked up their second mercy-rule win of the day over the visiting Vikings.

Bailey Wadleigh, Sarah James and Maddie Hallowell singled for the islanders, with Hallowell scoring the lone run. Kelsey Obie doubled three times and singled for Richmond, while Sierra Lancaster added three singles.

Virginia Wadleigh pitched for Vinalhaven, allowing eight hits and five walks, with three strikeouts. Jamie Plummer pitched for Richmond, allowing three hits and no walks, with seven strikeouts.

Richmond 12, Vinalhaven/North Haven 0 (6 innings)

At Richmond April 20, the Vikings could not hold off the Bobcats and fell in six innings. Richmond scored two runs in the second, four runs in the second, five runs in the third and one run in the fifth.

Molly Foisy and Ashley Hamilton each singled for Vinalhaven. For Richmond, Noel Acord (3 singles, 3 runs), Brianna Snedeker (triple, single, run) and Lancaster (2 singles) led the offense.

Ashley Davis-Oakes pitched for the Vikings, scattering 15 hits and three walks. Plummer pitched for the Bobcats, allowing two hits and no walks, with seven strikeouts.


Morse 8, Medomak Valley 0

At Bath April 22, the Panthers mustered only one hit against the Shipbuilders, who sailed to victory over the visitors. Morse scored eight runs on 11 hits and no errors, scoring five runs in the first inning and three in the sixth inning. Medomak Valley had one hit and one error.

Micah Williamson worked three innings on the mound for the Panthers, allowing five runs (2 earned) on seven hits and two walks, with one strikeout. Nicholas DePatsy went the final three frames, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits and five walks, with one strikeout.

Aaron Barrett tossed a one-hit shutout for Morse, walking four and striking out 11.

Ryan Ripley doubled for Medomak Valley's lone hit.

Aaron Doughty had three hits for Morse, while Andrew Lacavera and Liam McDonough each had two and Barrett, Paul Whalen, Chris Paulos and Ethan Winglass each one.

Richmond 12, Vinalhaven/North Haven 2 (6 innings)

At Richmond April 20, the Vikings could not hold off the Bobcat offense and were downed in mercy-rule fashion. Richmond scored six runs in the second inning, five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Mike Stewart tossed a two-hitter on the hill for Richmond, while Eddie Stewart double, singled and had two RBIs.

Richmond 8, Vinalhaven/North Haven 0

At Richmond April 20, the Vikings were blanked by the host Bobcats in the season-opening game for both squads. Richmond scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Cody Hamilton doubled to lead the islanders, while Ben Beckman added two singles and Avery Waterman one single.

For Richmond, Mike Stewart doubled, singled and scored a run, while Randy Moody, Gage Myrick and Bailey Johnson each added one single and Cameron Emmons two runs.

Byron Thomas went the distance on the hill for the islanders, allowing five hits and nine walks, with four strikeouts. Eddie Stewart pitched for Richmond, allowing four hits and one walk, with 10 strikeouts.
