A 30-year-old Friendship man was charged with stalking a local woman April 18 after police say he has been sending her letters for a year.

Mark Gagne, who, according to court documents has an extensive criminal history, is charged with one count of stalking after a woman he was continually contacting alerted police.

Gagne is being held at Knox County Jail on $500 cash bail.

The victim had previously gotten a protection order from Gagne last year, but missed the hearing, and the order was dropped. A harassment order was served to Gagne earlier this month while he was incarcerated at Waldo County Jail.

The woman told Knox County Sheriff's Office Detective Dwight Burtis she does not know Gagne and does not want him contacting her, according to court documents.

She also told police Gagne has mentioned her children in the letters and she is afraid of him, according to court documents.
