Robert B. Hopkins, 40, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 16, 2013.
Born in Limestone, Sept. 27, 1972, he was the son of Frank P. and Dorothy (Bradford) Hopkins. He was a 1990 graduate of Community High School in Fort Kent. Following graduation, he attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., earning a bachelor of science in geology in 1994.
Robert worked for a several years in Knox County as a landscaper, a job in which he excelled and took great pleasure. He later began his career as a CAD or Computer Assisted Design Technician for surveying and engineering firms in both Massachusetts and Maine, where he worked until his illness.
Robert was an outdoorsman at heart and had a keen eye for anything natural. He was a skilled gardener, growing many beautiful gardens. He could often be found on the water, canoeing or kayaking. He was a voracious reader, often reading books about gardening. Robert expressed his creative side through photography and writing.
His winning smile, wry wit and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew him.
Robert was predeceased by his father; he is survived by his mother, Dorothy Hopkins of Wallagrass; a brother Frank W. Hopkins of Portland; and his daughter Emily Hopkins Saunders of Sandwich, Mass.
