The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Oceanside High School girls tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: Nick Blais, fourth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 8-4, No. 7 in Eastern Class B. The Mariners beat No. 10 Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft 5-0 in a preliminary playoff and fell 3-0 to No. 3 Caribou in a rain-shortened quarterfinal match.

Roster: Seniors Brianna Bodman, Kasie Waters, Vieno Carter, Hannah Lacasse, Afton Hupper, Lindsey Joyce, Phoebe Ferraiolo and Rachel Delfrate; sophomores Alayna Joyce and Jackie Thorbjornson; and freshmen Lily Butler and Meg McGonagle.

Outlook: The Mariners return eight seniors to this year's team, but have large shoes to fill as Allison Ward (first singles) and Rosemary McGeady (third singles) graduated in June. But the Mariners do display depth, particularly at first and second doubles, which should bode well as the program looks to qualify for the postseason for the second straight year.

"I have a lot of depth on the team, meaning, the 3-7 players on my ladder are all quite interchangeable, which is great as a coach," said Blais. "Our singles are a bit weaker, but this is the norm for us. No superstar singles [players], but we are still pretty good. Second and third singles players will be playing singles for the first time, but Kasie Waters is a great, seasoned, number one singles player."

Blais expects Waterville and Camden Hills to be among the league's elite, but "all other teams we should be an extremely strong competitor against."

"It looks to be another strong, winning season for us and we are hoping to make it deeper into playoffs too," he said.
