Regional School Unit 40 Superintendent Susan Pratt has been hired as the new superintendent and high school principal in the Rangeley Lakes Regional School District, according to Rangeley school board Chairwoman Pam Ellis.

Pratt will start her new job July 1.

The Rangeley school board voted unanimously Tuesday, April 9 to hire Pratt, Ellis said.

The chairwoman said the Rangeley school, which is part of RSU 78, is very small and only needs a part-time superintendent. They are replacing Brian Foster, who retired. To make the job more appealing to qualified candidates, the board created a full-time administrative position that incorporates both superintendent and high school principal duties, Ellis said.

"I have appreciated the work and the energy this board has put in, the countless hours they donate," Pratt said of the RSU 40 board. She said she will miss the friends she has made in the district.

Pratt said she decided to take the new job because it is closer to her farm in Strong and will allow her to be home with her family at night.

Her last day is June 30.

Pratt began her job as superintendent in RSU 40 in August 2011, replacing Francis Boynton, who retired from the position.
