The Oceanside girls lacrosse team, still a club sport this spring but which has been approved for varsity status for next year, has started the 2013 campaign on a torrid pace.

The Mariners hosted a preseason play day on April 6 and were back in action at home on Monday, April 8 against visiting Lincoln Academy of Newcastle on Sam Pendleton Field in another preseason affair.

Oceanside beat the Eagles 10-4, as goalie Jalynn Hurd made 12 saves. Keying the Mariner offense were Olivia Hupper (goal, 2 assists), Janelle Fowlie (2 goals, assist), Lily Vachon (goal, 2 assists), Cortney Simmons (goal, assist), Kimberly Young (goal), Sydney Brooks (3 goals, assist) and Rebekah Freeman (goal).
