With freezing temperatures and a wind chill that made one recall the recently departed winter weather, conditions were far from perfect for baseball Saturday, April 6, as Oceanside hosted Brunswick and Nokomis of Newport in a preseason play day.

All three teams played each other once, with the Mariners falling to the Dragons 4-0 in the first game of the morning, while Nokomis won the next two games, besting Brunswick in the middle game and Oceanside in the final contest of the day.

Scores for the final two games were unavailable.

Mariner coach Don Shields, who played all 17 varsity players in a multitude of different positions, said "the cold and wind made it very difficult to play."

Oceanside will host a second play day on Saturday, April 13 with Camden Hills, Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft and Hermon.

The April 13 schedule includes: Oceanside versus Hermon, 9 a.m.; Camden Hills versus Foxcroft Academy, 10:45 a.m.; Camden Hills versus Hermon, 12:30 p.m.; and Oceanside versus Foxcroft Academy, 2:15 p.m.
