Senior School Luncheon

The next senior luncheon will be April 4 at 11 a.m. at Hope Elementary School. The menu will include baked ham, baked potato, steamed peas and corn, a biscuit, and salad bar featuring cantaloupe. The cost is $4 per person.

Hope Community Birthday Calendar

The Community Calendar is a wonderful fundraiser for Hope Elementary School and Hope Library. Local businesses place ads and provide local services. Early bird subscriptions are discounted to $7, due by April 1. Volunteers will be contacting households during April to ask for your support. Subscriptions received during April will be $8. Hope's oldest citizen William Pearse will celebrate his 93rd birthday in on April 12. How about sending him a birthday card or stop by and visit for a few minutes? His address is Windward Gardens, 105 Mechanic St., Camden, ME 04843.

At the Library

At a recent Hope Volunteers meeting Beth Guiseley was elected President. Continuing as treasurer is Jean Ettinger, and as secretary, Judith Jones. Books have been shelved and residents are taking out books as they have in the past. Our last speaker this season will be with us on April 24 at 7 p.m. She is Lea Wait, a Maine mystery writer, whose latest book "Shadows on a Cape Cod wedding," is being published this month. If you are a mystery lover, watch for the posters and save the date!

Class Meeting

The Camden and Rockport classes of 1958 will have a work meeting for their class reunion at 1:30 p.m. at Windward Gardens on April 30. They will be making final decisions about the reunion.

Class of 1958 Lunch

The Camden High School class of 1958 will meet for their monthly class lunch on Thursday, April 11, at the Waterfront Restaurant at noon.

Class of 1960

The Camden High School class of 1960 will have a class lunch on April 12 at noon at the Offshore Restaurant.

Property Taxes

The second half of Hope's property taxes will be due April 20, 2013. There are several payment options: by mail, in person or online at For your convenience, the town does accept credit cards (online and in the office), however there is a 2.5 percent processing fee. If you choose to pay online by electronic check there is a flat $2 fee per transaction. If you have any questions about your payment amount or payment options, feel free to call the town office at 763-4199.

Municipal Government

Nomination papers are now available at Hope Town Office for the following positions:

Two selectman, assessor and overseer of poor (3-year positions)

Three budget committee members (3-year positions)

One school committee member (3-year position)

The nomination papers must have no less than 25 and no more than 100 signatures of registered Hope voters. The papers will need to be returned by 4:30 p.m. on April 30, which is a correction from last week's column that listed April 29 as the deadline.

Hope Town Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday 2 to 8 p.m.

Volunteers Needed

Track and Field

Students interested in track and field (grades 6, 7, and 8) will participate with Camden Rockport Middle School and should sign up in the office.

Student Art Exhibit

Some Hope Elementary students will be presenting their works of art at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) – 40 different pieces will be from Hope students. This exhibit will be from April 27 to May 12. The CMCA will host “Articipation,” a celebration of student art, on Saturday, April 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. Installation will be Monday, April 22, through Thursday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to  5 p.m. If you are interested in helping to prepare or install work, please contact
