Medomak Middle School and South Bristol Elementary School are winners of the Busline League's 2012-13 sportsmanship awards.

The Riverhawks are the recipients from the Large School Division, while the Mariners are the recipients from the Small School Division.

The award encompasses the calendar year of 2012-2013 for spring, fall and winter sports.

"I'm very happy," said Matt Lash, athletic director for Medomak Middle School and Medomak Valley High School. "It's something that, as a league, we take very seriously and every school in the league tries to do the best they can in every area, whether it be sportsmanship of the players [or] the coaches. We all want to be good hosts to the schools when they come in, and we want our fans to represent our communities well.

"I'm happy for our school, all the coaches, the athletes and certainly the fans as well. It's a tremendous honor."

The Busline League Sportsmanship Awards are given annually to the schools that demonstrate high levels of respect for opponents, coaches, officials and facilities when hosting or traveling to competitions. Award winners also model appropriate behavior before, during and after competitions.

The Busline League is comprised of 18 schools from Woolwich to Searsport, including Vinalhaven. The league is run by athletic administrators from its member schools.
