Eighth-graders emerged victorious over their Camden-Rockport Middle School classmates during a spirit week that concluded with a "grand finale" assembly, Thursday, March 14.

School Nurse and Wellness Team member Kristin Nelson said the students had participated in activities such as a recycled art contest, banner decorating and a food fundraiser that gathered 598 items to benefit Camden Area Christian Food Pantry.

Nelson said it is nice that food donations will benefit area citizens.

Games played at the spirit assembly included a wagon-and-pin race, hula hooping contest, tug-of-war, cup stacking competition, balloon stomp and an ill-fated event that appeared to be a hula hoop relay, but was cut short due to time limitations.

According to Nelson, the Wellness Team organizes events such as the gym games and penny war, in which students and staff raised a total of $759.96. Nelson said such funds have previously been used to purchase recess equipment — including hula hoops and basketballs — and a CPR mannequin.
