Virginia Belle Spear Robinson, 91, passed away March 14, 2013 at her home in St. George after a brief illness.

She was born in Cushing Dec. 16, 1921, the second child of Herbert I. and Bessie (Bunker) Spear’s six children. She graduated from Thomaston High School in 1940 and Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 as a registered nurse.

On March 2, 1946, Virginia married Joseph C. Robinson Jr. They made their home in St. George, where they raised their family.

Virginia worked as a private duty nurse. She also helped many family members and friends with her nursing skills. She was a bookkeeper for the family business and a homemaker. At the age of 70 she discovered kayaking and spent many hours enjoying the quiet life of paddling. Her interests included family, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, knitting, and crocheting.

For many years she was a member of the Thomaston Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, her parents, her brother Irvin, and sister Gladys Gregory. She is survived by her four daughters, Martha, Marjorie Davis and her husband Gary, Marilee, and Melinda; four grandsons, Edward, Matthew, Corey, and Jeremy Davis; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, her siblings, Judith Lewis, Jeanette Abshire, and Herbert I. Spear Jr.; and her four-legged companion Tommy Cat March.

At Virginia’s request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. George Ambulance Association PO Box 249 Tenants Harbor, ME 04860.
