During a regular meeting March 11, Rockport Select Board members chose seven people to serve on the town manager search committee.

A pool of 26 people had previously expressed interest in being part of the committee and more than half of them spoke to select board members March 6, several others emailed town officials.

Following a nearly half hour executive session March 11, select board members designated Will Gartley, Kim Graffam, Peter Hall, Tom Cox, Kathleen Meil, Jan Rosenbaum and Betsy Saltonstall as members of the committee. Select board member Tracy Lee Murphy will serve as a town liaison. She will be responsible for setting up the initial meeting of the committee.

March 6, Rosenbaum was one one of the citizens to present his case. He said he has served on previous town manager search committees during his 15 years as a resident of Rockport.

"[Rockport] is about to go through some serious changes," he said. "This is where I live."

Cox also addressed the select board March 6. He said he has been involved in community affairs as a member of the zoning board, school board, planning board, budget committee and ordinance review committee.

"I'd like to do anything I can to make Rockport a better place to be," he said.

As a lifelong resident of Rockport, Gartley said he too has been involved in a number of town committees.

"I live here, I work here, I play here. I love Rockport," he said.

While Hall moved away for a time, he said his experience as a selectman and member of the budget committee as well as his ease in working with appointed and elected officials would be a benefit during the search for a new town manager.

In early February, Robert Peabody Jr. submitted his resignation after nearly eight years as town manager. Select board members appointed Roger Moody as interim town manager at the end of February.
