Harrison Jack Wakely, 89, of Topsham, died Wednesday, March 6 at d'Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

He was born in Lisbon Falls Sept. 15, 1923, the son of the late Charles J. and Genieva (Trufant) Wakely.

He attended schools in Topsham and graduated from Lisbon High School. He was a member of the American Legion, Topsham Garden Club, the Maine Beekeepers Association and the Lisbon Falls Historical Society.

While stationed in England as an M.P. with the 8th Army Air Corps, he married the former Doreen Hunt in 1945. They enjoyed more than 67 years together.

He worked at Bath Iron Works as a machinist for 45 years. After his retirement, he ran his own greenhouses.

Harrison is survived by his wife Doreen of Topsham, and sons David and Christine Wakely of Warren, Mark and his wife Anita of Brunswick, and Stanley and wife Annette of Topsham. He also leaves seven grandchildren, including Daniel of Williamsburg, Va. and Sarah and her husband Greg Hood of Cushing; three great-granddaughters, including Matilda and Kendra Hood. He also leaves behind a sister, Norma Cowan of Belfast, and his brother Norman and his wife Beverly of Lyme, N.H., as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws both in the United States and England. He was predeceased by his twin brother Larrison.
