Michael F. Tarvainen, 51, died unexpectedly at his home March 2, 2013.

He was born Jan. 2, 1962 in Rockland to Toivo and Rachel Spear Tarvainen. He grew up in Owls Head and graduated from Rockland High School in the class of 1980. He lived most of his life in Owls Head.

He attended University of Maine at Augusta.

He loved being outdoors, going to camp and hunting and fishing. He loved animals, music and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his sister, Yvonne Prosser and her husband Sheldon of Scarborough; brother, William Tarvainen and his wife Barbara of Durham, N.H.; nephews, Tyler Prosser of Scarborough, Nicholas Tarvainen of Dover, N.H.; James Tarvainen of New York City; nieces, Kylie Prosser of Scarborough, Mariah Tarvainen of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; Rosie Tarvainen of Durham, N.H.; aunt and uncles, Nancy and Robert Sayward of Union, Donna and Edward McDonald of East Union; and close friend Cindy.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family Saturday, March 9, from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a service to celebrate Michael’s life at 2 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 78 Main St., Thomaston. Burial will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions in Michael’s memory may be made to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
