The fourth annual Thomas F. Chester Frozen 5-kilometer road race will take place Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. at the Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center. The event is held during the annual Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce Christmas by the Sea weekend.

Racers should check in by 9 a.m.

The course will start at the bottom of the mountain and wind through the resort complex to the summit before it turns and heads back to the base of the resort.

More than 50 runners participated last year. There are prizes for winners. The first group of entrants will receive a t-shirt. The entry fee is $10 to walk, $15 to run and $25 for a family or company team.

There also will be cookie decorating for children and Santa will stop by.

The race, in memory of Thomas F. Chester, will benefit Augie’s Quest, which is an ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) charity. A runner in high school, “Big Tom” lost his battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in June of 2009.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, eventually leading to death. There is no cure for the disease and there is no recovery from it.
