The Midcoast Fifth- and Sixth-Grade Soccer League playoffs concluded Sunday, Oct. 28, with champions crowned in the boys and girls divisions at Leppanen Field in St. George.

Squads from Rockland and Waldoboro squared off in the Hannaford Supermarket Midcoast Soccer Championships, with the Rockland boys and girls hoisting league crowns by day's end.

The Rockland girls (7-2-2) posted a 2-0 victory over Waldoboro (7-3-1), while the Rockland boys (9-1-1) earned a 2-1 win over Waldoboro (5-5-1) in a game that was decided in penalty kicks.

The tournament was postponed one weekend due to inclement weather Oct. 20-21. Semifinal games were played in Warren on Saturday, Oct. 27 before the finals were contested in St. George.

Team members for the Waldoboro girls include Hannah Prock, Taylor Post, Chloe Bossow, Elsie Matthews, Madeylin White, Olivia Jenkins, Cassie Smeltzer, MacKenzie Bickmore, Gabriyah Gadsby, Addie Jamison, Mariah Grindle, Ashley Holmes, Kelly Tynan and Deanna Dupuis. The team is coached by Bill Post and Jamie Jenkins.

Team members for the Rockland boys include Dayton Dinsmore, Cole Stevens, Luca Siletti, Elijah Allen, Carter Fogarty, Caleb Powell, Aidan Bonzagni, Nathan Roberts, Ro Carlson, Robbie Barter, Erin Steeves, Brian Henshaw and Robert Grover. The team is coached by Chris Allen and Marnie Allen.

Team members for the Waldoboro boys include Scott Robinson, Kevin White, Nathan Emerson, Greyson Clark, Will Perry, Gabe Allaire, Alden McLain, Nick Hill, John Jones, Jordan Powell, Joey Horovitz, Osage Crie, Jonah Miller, Wyatt Sykel, Colby Castner, Lucas Webber and Joey Douphlin. The team is coached by Tracie McLean.

The boys championship game saw the squads knotted 1-1 at the end of regulation, with McLain scoring for Waldoboro and Barter for Rockland — each on penalty kicks. After two five-minute overtimes, the game moved to penalty kicks.

Hill buried a penalty kick for Waldoboro, while Dinsmore, Stevens and Allen converted penalty kicks of their own, which led Rockland to the win.

In the girls game, Rockland's Butler and Marsh tallied second-half goals to lead the team to victory.

The regular-season boys league standings included: 1, Rockland, 7-1-1; 2, Waldoboro, 4-4-1; 3, S.T.C (St. George/Thomaston/Cushing), 3-4-2; and 4, Warren, 1-6-2.

The regular-season girls league standings included: 1, Waldoboro, 6-2-1; 2, Rockland, 5-2-2; 3, Warren, 2-5-1; and 4, T.S.C (Thomaston/St. George/Cushing), 1-5-2.

Boys playoff action leading into Sunday's championship included No. 2 Waldoboro defeating No. 3 S.T.C. 3-2 in penalty kicks, while No. 1 Rockland bested No. 4 Warren 2-1 in overtime to advance in a pair of games played at the Warren Recreation Field.

Girls playoff action leading into Sunday's championship included No. 2 Rockland defeating No. 3 Warren 2-1, while No. 1 Waldoboro bested No. 4 T.S.C 2-0 to advance, also in a pair of games played at the Warren Recreation Field.
